David Preston, the long serving Town Clerk to Award Winning Oswestry TC, was unanimously elected President of the Society of Local Council Clerks for the coming year at its AGM last week.
A full profile of David can be found here
In thanking colleagues for his election, David said he hoped to visit as many branches as possible, where he would like to focus on “managing and surviving change”. He hoped to offer some tips for survival in a job that can be so rewarding, but at times can go so horribly wrong. Specifically, he wanted to focus on bullying and the total inadequacy of any sanction against breaches of the Code of Conduct.
David has made the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital his charity, after the support that the unit has, and continues to give to his wife and so many others.
David’s sponsors for his presidential year are Edge IT, CCLA and Mant Leisure.
At the same meeting, following a contested election, Sarah Jeffries, Clerk to Maiden Bradley PC in Wiltshire, was elected President-Elect with the intention of succeeding David in October 2019.
